A Writer's Library

Here’s a great resource. It’s a free archive of the NY Times series, Writers on Writing, in which writers explore literary themes and the writing life. Authors include Richard Ford, E.L. Doctorow, Barbara Kingsolver, Russell Banks, Geraldine Brooks, Elmore Leonard, Jocye Carol Oates, John Updike, Jamaica Kincaid, Saul Bellow, Annie Proulx and others. The series has been collected in book form, here: “Writers on Writing: Collected Essays from The New York Times” (The New York Times), and here: “Writers on Writing, Volume II: More Collected Essays from The New York Times” (The New York Times, Jane Smiley), but you can read 63 of the columns here for free.
